A beautiful miniature of translucent, creamy white Witherite composed of two excellent, well developed crystals of the much rarer, stepped oscillatory, hexagonal pyramidal habit, one measuring an impressive 3.3 cm, the smaller to xx cm. Witherite, a barium carbonate, often forms as massive or columnar habit crystals; but it is the hexagonal pyramidal form which are most sought by collectors. From Fallowfield mine close to the village of Acomb near Hexham in Northumberland, England, the Witherite crystals are surrounded by a drusy development of spiky, white Alstonite crystals. This very fine habit of Witherite will make an excellent addition to any collection of British minerals.
