This miniature-sized well-crystallized cluster of mottled dark brown to olive-brown Vesuvianite crystals displaying excellent tetragonal pyramidally-terminated prisms comes from Ecuador, a country not usually renowned for mineral specimens. Indeed, there appears to be very little information regarding Vesuvianite occurrences in Ecuador, let alone at Quito, the capital city. Possibly, this specimen was purchased by a previous owner from Quito, but originated elsewhere in Ecuador, with Vesuvianite known from the Raspas Eclogite Complex in the far southwest of the country. It is certainly very nicely formed, complete all round.
