Gorgeous composite Strontianite crystals to 6 cm wide form curved flattened sprays with pale tangerine bodies grading to translucent creamy-white terminations. Composed entirely of the strontium carbonate, Strontianite, the broad crystals have a glassy to waxy lustre and are from Oberdorf an der Laming, in the Laming valley, Styria, Austria, a historic locality, roughly 170 km south-east of Salzburg. The Strontianite occurs as upturned saucer-shaped composite crystals, convex across the prism faces and curving downwards towards either side across their apex. This is a superb Strontianite from Styria and is quite remarkable for the species.
