This large cabinet specimen of jet-black Sphalerite with biscuit-tan Calcite is, without any exaggeration, spectacular. From the famous Trep?a Complex in Kosovo, gigantic lustrous Sphalerite crystals pile high along a hidden matrix of massive Sphalerite and between many of the Sphalerite crystals, matt tan Calcite crystals and milky white Quartz crystals delineate their boundaries. The Sphalerite crystals are some of the best I have seen, a few measuring to over 6 cm on edge with a complexly modified octahedral habit and stunning glossy metallic lustre. The crystal faces show aesthetic naturally etched patterns and the presence of twinned crystals is made apparent by several re-entrant grooves along certain crystal faces. At $1100 this is a well-priced specimen as it is of museum quality.
