A stunning and classic cabinet specimen of rose pink, botryoidal Smithsonite displaying a fabulous silky lustre from the iconic Choix locality in Sinaloa, Mexico. A crust of pink Smithsonite, up to one centimetre thick, covers a previous generation of white Smithsonite. The edges of the pink and base of the white Smithsonite both exhibit attractive radial crystalline structures set normal (i.e. at ninety degrees) to sinusoidal horizontal bands showing successive depositions of Smithsonite. Occasional pits and tubular holes descend into the specimen from the top surface, suggesting former inclusions which have been preferentially dissolved with evolving fluid chemistry. It is a beautiful, tactile specimen in a shade of pink difficult to describe, enhanced further by its silky to resinous lustre.
