Often overshadowed by the world-famous Tsumeb mine and its staggering diversity of mineral species, Berg Aukas in the Grootfontein District, Namibia is actually where some of the very best crystallized Smithsonite specimens came from, but were sold at Tsumeb and consequently got wrongly provenanced along the way. This stunning miniature Smithsonite was already labelled as from Berg Aukas and its stunning level of crystallization is immediately apparent. It is made up of small (to 7 mm on edge), but perfectly-formed, pale cream-coloured rhombic crystals displaying distinctive parallel growth-lines, forming a dome-like coating upon a porous, beige-coloured matrix. Highly distinctive in habit, this is a really special Berg Aukas Smithsonite.
