This remarkable habit of Rhodochrosite is one the rarest seen from the N'Chwaning mines in South Africa, or indeed anywhere else in the world. So supremely glossy, it is difficult to capture the effect of this in photography. Excellent, gemmy, deep rich burgundy-red scalenohedral crystals, reaching to 1.1 cm in length are richly intergrown in this stunning miniature specimen. With backlighting, or directional lighting, the crystals glow with fine neon red to orange internal reflections. This is a top level N'Chwaning mines Rhodochrosite specimen. Although unspecified it is most likely from N'Chwaning I mine during the 1970s.
