Locality
West Cumberland Iron Mining area Cumbria England
Condition
No recorded repairs
One half of a double terminated, lustrous and glassy Quartz crystal which becomes increasingly smoky towards its apex. The crystal is well terminated and was clearly developing as a double termination until its growth was arrested on contact with in situ botryoidal Hematite; a shell-like fragment of which remains attached to the base, forming the only matrix. As is often the case with west Cumbrian specimens, no specific locality has been recorded, but it is likely from the mines around the town of Egremont.
