An outstanding Pyromorphite from the now classic Daoping mine in Gongcheng County, China. This mine exploits a Pb-Zn limestone-hosted ore deposit of Devonian age intruded by granites and lamprophyre dykes. All Pyromorphites from this locality are beautiful, but this is truly an exceptional specimen. Almost the whole specimen is composed of Pyromorphite with little mixed Limonite and possibly Hematite, forming an infilling cement between small Pyromorphite crystals around the back and base of the specimen. Acidic, slightly yellowish-lime-green Pyromorphite crystals form inwardly curving walls around the specimen, creating a large open geode-like cavity richly lined with magnificent Pyromorphite crystals as starburst sprays a few mm across grading to large crystals up to 2.5 cm tall, some with hollow centres and all with a bright silvery lustre. A show-stopper!
