The variety in Pyromorphite colour and habit at the Les Farges Mine, Ussel, France appears boundless and this specimen exemplifies the case. Composed entirely of grass-green Pyromorphite crystals of a more acicular habit, the lustre varies from bright to a more matt (or flat) appearance. There seems to be more than one generation of Pyromorphite crystals; the first forming the larger crystals, to say 1.2 cm, and the later phase forming sub-millimetre feathery sprays and overgrowths. The terminations of the larger crystals show an almost hollow, tube-like core and many, over their last few millimetres of growth, exhibit a subtle colour change to a most attractive blueish-green. A superb and complex Pyromorphite with lots of interest from the Les Farges mine.
