Phosgenite, lead chlorocarbonate, is one of Tsumeb’s much rarer mineral species with specimens hardly ever available for sale. This miniature comprises a longitudinal crystal section of Phosgenite with a partial pinacoid termination. The prism’s back face is coated with a creamy, vitreous, granular mineral, either Cerussite or light coloured Phosgenite. The prism is dark chocolate brown, containing light tan zones parallel to the termination. The termination is intensely deep brown with a matt lustre resulting from its micro-stippled surface texture. Across the top of the pinacoid is a line of small translucent pale lemon Cerussite crystals forming micro-prisms and plates. The specimen displays a fine glassy to waxy lustre across its faces. A great miniature of this very rare species from Tsumeb.
