It is always much rarer to see Native Silver specimens from the Black Forest region in the west of Germany than those from Saxony or the Harz mountains. The Sophia mine in the Böckelsbach Valley, Wittichen, Schenkenzell, Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg closed in 1938 and this small miniature specimen bearing Native Silver in Baryte has the appearance of significant age. The Native Silver has a dark, almost black tarnish to it, and forms a somewhat sheet-like mass with other disseminated patches within the matrix. This might not be the largest, or most attractive of Native Silver specimens, but is a rarity for the locality, or regionally inspired collector.
