Calumet & Hecla is without question one of the most famous names associated with copper mining in Michigan due to the mining company of that name systematically taking over most of the other mining concerns in the district. This cabinet-sized specimen of Native Copper from Calumet & Hecla mine at Calumet Township, Houghton Co., Michigan is a classic. Rather than displaying the much sought after crystals of Native Copper, it presents well defined casts, or epimorphs, believed to be after prismatic Quartz crystals. The Native Copper has a lovely rich orange colour and fine metallic lustre. Ex David Hardman collection.
