This stunning specimen of orange Mimetite is from the now famous Pingtouling mine in Guangdong Province, China. Discovered in about 2003, the Mimetite from this mine has proven to be of exceptional quality in comparison to other world occurrences - not only in terms of intensity of orange colour, but magnificent 'wet' lustre, and superb hexagonal crystal shape. The deposit was very limited and within just a few years no new material was forthcoming making these first finds so special. This exquisite specimen is not only exceptional in terms of quality, but at small cabinet in size it is one of the few 'major' specimens to have been recovered. Very fine hexagonal crystals of lustrous gemmy to translucent-opaque Mimetite have a pleasing orange to a burnt-orange colour measuring to a great 2 cm across, displaying hopper and stepped development. Crystals of Mimetite on the reverse of the specimen show a fine intense orange to yellow colour. It comes with a custom-made acryllic display stand.
