The Morenci mine in Greenlee County, Arizona is one of the best-known localities for secondary copper mineralization in the USA. Fabulous specimens of Malachite and Azurite started coming out during the 1970s and continued for some time. This cabinet-sized display specimen is a real classic, consisting of a solid aggregate of bladed crystals of Azurite replaced, or pseudomorphed, by fibrous velvety green Malachite. These bladed pseudomorphs reach up to 3 cm in length. In a further complication to the paragenesis, glossy deep blue, bladed Azurite crystals have then grown on top and extend out from the Malachite pseudomorphs. Not only is this a beautiful aesthetic specimen, but it has a story to tell too.
