Rich crusts of flattened botryoidal Malachite partly cover a creamy-tan dolomitic matrix from the old mining district of Brixlegg-Schwaz in the Inn Valley, North Tyrol, Austria. The Malachite forms small botryoidal hillocks and elongated, stalactitic-type fingers to 2.5 cm long over the matrix; the latter mimicking the underlying foliation within the Dolomite matrix. The outer, more exposed surfaces of the Malachite have become rounded and polished with time and are a grassy-emerald-green. Within the troughs of the undulating surface, which offer more protection, the Malachite is light peppermint green with a velvet-matt lustre. A lovely old time small cabinet specimen.
