One of the classic minerals associated with Caldbeck Fells is Linarite from Red Gill mine. This fine specimen has a creamy, iron-stained Quartz matrix with pastel-green Malachite and a top surface covered with shallow vugs. These are lined with glassy, translucent light-smoky grey Cerussite crystals, pastel-green Malachite and occasional micro-botryoidal yellow-green Pyromorphite/Mimetite. Across one area of this face is a band of azure-blue Linarite crystals, forming blades to 4 mm across. The base is covered in creamy bladed Baryte crystals, these partly overgrown with micro-crystalline yellow Pyromorphite. A very good representative specimen from this famous occurrence.
