A chunky and robust Hematite Iron Rose, attached to a smear of granular milky-Quartz matrix, from the St. Gotthard Massif in the district of Leventina, Ticino canton, Switzerland. The Iron Rose variety of Hematite typically forms hexagonal 'roses'; although in this case, a two-thirds rose, as part of the lower half of the hexagon has been truncated by the matrix while in-situ. The crystal measures 3.9 cm between its two vertical edges and is 1.5 cm thick. The Hematite forms opaque black stacked platelets with a silver-black, bright metallic lustre and concave faces on opposite sides. A terrific Iron Rose from the St. Gotthard Massif.
