This is a super, large miniature specimen of well-formed octahedral metallic black Hausmannite crystals on cream-pink Andradite garnet from the N'Chwaning mine, South Africa. The crystals of Hausmannite measure up to 1 cm across and display excellent stepped pyramidal growth and twinning and the Andradite forms a finely crystallized layer of rounded microcrystals. The N'Chwaning mines and the neighbouring Wessels mine have produced some of the best defined crystals of this species and these ones are a good size, showy, and present extremely well on the contrasting brighter coloured Andradite background. A super example of this rare manganese oxide species.
