This wonderful older Moroccan mineral specimen presents a fascinating and rarely seen formation - sharp, well-formed Goethite epimorphs after large scalenohedral Calcite crystals with a subsequent growth of acicular Aragonite crystals and crystal sprays on top. The delicate, thin crust of Goethite casts after Calcite, exhibits crystals to 5 cm in length and the cream coloured Aragonite crystals reach to over 2 cm in length. Due to its fragile nature - both the epimorphs and Aragonite crystals - there is some damage to the tips of some of the Aragonite crystals, but this is such a wonderful presentation of the unusual Moroccan oddity that it remains a signifcant display piece. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, no. 885, it comes from Ighoud in Youssoufia Province and probably dates from the 1980s or 1990s.
