An intergrown crystal of Galena with a typical silvery-grey metallic lustre with minor white Calcite, so characteristic of the Leadhills mines in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The specimen measures overall to 7.2 cm and comes with an F. H. Butler (180, Brompton Road, London, S.W.) label. Galena from the Leadhills ore field has a look all of its own, with large, semi-rounded lead grey crystals, all intergrown to form partial faces on each individual crystal. Specimens, be they primary or secondary, from the Leadhills-Wanlockhead mining district are high prized by collectors of British minerals.
