This small cabinet specimen is one of the absolute rarities from the West Cumbrian Iron Mining District - blue Fluorite. Classic, gemmy translucent pale blue crystals of Fluorite sit upon cream coloured saddle-shaped Dolomite crystals on Hematite in the iconic association from Florence mine, which was the last mine to produce iron ore in the UK, closing for the last time in 2007. The Fluorite crystals measure to 1.3 cm on edge and are pleasingly arranged over the intergrown Dolomite crystals on red-brown Hematite matrix. To be noted are striations on some of the Fluorite crystals as though they have grown up against a pre-existing mineral - possibly Baryte - which is no longer present.
