The Hilton mine is lies in the deep and steep-sided Scordale Valley, about 4 km from Hilton, a village to the east of Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria. Famous for its yellow fluorite, this large miniature is covered with sharp-edged cubic crystals with glassy smooth reflective faces, measuring up to 1.9 cm on edge. The Fluorite ranges between semi-transparent bright acidic-lemon to pale creamy-straw-yellow translucent cubic crystals. A good Hilton Fluorite displaying a terrific range of colours and occasional inclusions of metallic sulphides.
