If ever there was a classic, instantly recognizable form of Fluorite then this would surely be it - the colour-zoned green and deep purple cubo-octahedral Okorusu special. This very large miniature specimen is dominated by a 3.5 cm wide colour-zoned cubo-octahedral Fluorite crystal exhibiting glassy translucent cubic faces, and matt octahedral sides. With a rich, and classic, bottle green and purple zoned colour, intense backlighting fires this one up to another level. Some might claim that this is an "Alien-eye" Fluorite, but although the shape is right I am not quite so sure about the colour zoning, but it is still a stunning crystallized piece. Around the main Fluorite crystal others shoot off. Okorusu mine in Otjiwarongo District, Namibia was a fluorspar-producing openpit (several separate openpits) but closed in 2014. The previous operating company allowed a limited amount of commercial mineral collecting to preserve treasures such as this, but unless circumstances change there are unlikely to be any new finds at this famous mine.
