As a state, Utah is not renowned for Fluorite localities, but there are always exceptions. In this case it is Deer Trail mine in the Mount Baldy-Ohio Mining District in Pilute County. Specimens from Deer Trail mine often display a quite distinctive pale sea-green colour and usually not as straightforward cubic crystals, but as complex modified cubo-octahedral crystals. This miniature specimen displays one main, 2.7 cm wide crystal of a rich sea-green colour sat upon a sandy matrix. The Fluorite crystal is internally fractured, but shows lovely, complex, crystal faces and a fine waxy lustre and translucency. There are other much smaller crystals extending out laterally from the base of this main crystal. A really distinctive specimen from an unusual locality.
