Brumado in Bahia state, Brazil was once the Type Locality for Uvite, a calcium and magnesium-bearing variety of tourmaline. However, reclassification and analysis has shown that the 'Uvite' from Brumado vary in composition between Fluor-Uvite and Uvite and due to the uncertainty the purer, more chemically certain material from the Isle of Elba, Italy has taken its place as the Type Material. This small miniature very dark coloured matrixless complex twinned Fluor-Uvite-Uvite Series crystal from Brumado comes from Jesse Fisher and Joan Kureczka's collection. Without chemical analysis we cannot be more precise in its identification, but these crystals came from the Magnesite deposits local to Brumado, like Pomba Pit. Most individual crystals are less than 2 cm in size, making this quite an impressive grouping.
