This is a remarkable historic Epidote specimen from Czechia. Sobotín is by far the most famous locality for Epidote in Czechia, known for centuries and although small crystals can still be found there, larger matrix specimens are rare, and historic pieces rarer still. At small cabinet size, this is already a larger piece than what is typically seen and although it does not sit perfectly for display it presents the perfect assemblage, with rich deep pistacio-green glossy prismatic crystals of Epidote rising up through a matrix almost entirely carpeted in glossy cream coloured triangular Albite crystals reaching to 5 mm in length. The main Epidote crystals reach 1 x 0.9 cm and 1.1 x 0.3 cm and show paler green tips. Perhaps more importantly, this specimen is accompanied by a very old (c. late 19th century) handwritten label recording the older name for the locality, "Zoptau, Pferrweg, Mähren". A superb old-timer from Czechia.
