The quarry at this locality was begun around 1641, later becoming an underground operation. The mine, referred to as the Magnesite deposit at Sunk is in Styria, Austria and has worked intermittently over the intervening years, and including current mining activity. The specimen presented here is an absolutely superb Dolomite crystal with smaller, similar crystals attached. The primary crystal forms a four-sided steep pyramid, measuring approximately 4.0 x 2.5 cm by 4.5 cm high, with modified flattened edges. The crystals are colourless, with a light grey hue and, in the main, appear quite gemmy within their mildly striated faces.
