Dioptase, the deep emerald-green copper silicate, is a Tsumeb classic and has become, perhaps, the mine's most iconic mineral species. The Dioptase crystals are typically between 4 and 8 mm across but do measure up to 1 cm. The sharp, well formed crystals are mainly translucent, but commonly display transparent zones throughout. This beautiful small miniature sits on a small matrix of opaque milky-white Calcite and comes mounted on a thick, colourless acrylic base. A few of the Dioptase crystals around the periphery of the specimen are slightly chipped, but do not deter from the specimen when displayed.
