A rare Hungarian classic specimen probably dating to the early 20th century if not earlier. This significant, cabinet-sized aggregate of Cuprite crystals is partly replaced/pseudomorphed by green Malachite. The cubo-octahedral Cuprite crystals measure up to 1.5 cm across and have a stacked form with a small amount of Quartz-Gossan matrix. Their surface is a little dull and pitted, but this reflects the undoubted age of this specimen. It is from the famous Andrássy II mine in the Rudabánya silver-copper mining district where silver and copper ores have been mined from Medieval times. Ex Huber collection of historic Eastern European minerals.
