The pink, cobalt-rich variety of Smithsonite, known as Cobaltoan Smithsonite is, in my opinion, one of the most attractive minerals known from Tsumeb mine. Specimens can come in a variety of shades, from very pale pink to deep cerise and with a variety of lustres, transparencies and crystal forms. This large miniature to small cabinet specimen displays perhaps the most desirable colour and form: bright, bubble gum pink curved lenticular Cobaltoan Smithsonite crystals with a classic 'greasy' lustre and fine translucency. The intergrown crystals cover almost the whole of the upper display surface beneath which is a dark grey sulphide matrix. This is one of those impactful specimens that catches the eye. A super Tsumeb mine Smithsonite.
