A rich bed of delicate rose pink Cobaltoan Smithsonite crystals entirely mask a mixed massive granular Smithsonite and black sulphide matrix from the Tsumeb mine in Namibia. The Smithsonite forms thin curved blades to typically 1 cm wide which build into hemispherical rosettes also of around 1 cm diameter. These crystals tend to have a frosted texture and hence matt to semi-matt lustre, although the curved edges of the blades can often display a brighter glassy lustre. Cobaltoan Smithsonite can be found covering a spectrum of pink hues at Tsumeb and this specimen is towards the more subtle end. A great example finely crystallised Cobaltoan Smithsonite from Tsumeb.
