An attractive miniature of rich buttery-tan, rhombohedral crystals of Siderite with a single, gemmy, raspberry-red pseudo-hexagonal crystal of Cinnabar perched on top. From Polster at Styrian Erzberg, Eisenerz, Styria, Austria, an ancient mine dating from around the end of the first millennium and the largest deposit of Siderite in the world. The Cinnabar crystal measures 8 mm across and is 4 mm high from where it emerges in the Siderite. Careful inspection of the video shows that this crystal has been contacted at some point, resulting in two tiny nicks and a slight fracture, but it is still dramatically positioned and attractive. Under low magnification the Siderite is seen to be scattered with micro-crystals of Cinnabar in the octahedral form. A lovely European Cinnabar crystal from Styrian Erzberg.
