Thallium-bearing mineral species are few and far between. Chalcothallite, a thallium copper iron antimony sulphide, is one of the few, and is only recorded on Mindat.org as from three localities in the Ilimausaaq Complex, Greenland. Rumours once circulated that it had also been found in a deposit in Kazakhstan, but a brief search of the internet has failed to establish the details. This thumbnail specimen from a well-known rare species collection in Austria is labelled simply as a metallic grey crystal of Chalcothallite from Kazakhstan. The main mass of the specimen is intergrown Quartz and metallic sulphides on top of which protrudes a single, 0.7 mm long, well-formed, dark grey metallic bladed crystal. This is potentially a very rare and important specimen, but no other details are known.
