A stunning miniature Chalcocite displaying a characteristic crystal habit for the St. Ives Consols group of mines. Bright metallic, slightly blue-grey Chalcocite crystals are clustered over a bed of smaller crystallised Chalcocite. The crystals display excellent pseudo-hexagonal form with a tabular stepped growth habit, many with an appearance of gear wheels and crystals measuring to 0.6 cm. Many of the hexagonal faces exhibit subtle iridescence, displaying delicate bronze, mauve and peacock blue. St Ives Consols mine is located at adjacent to the western edge of the coastal town of St Ives, the site of which appears to just recently have been build over with new housing. It's an excellent and most charming miniature Chalcocite of a true classic Cornish mineral.
