Everyone has heard of the famous 18th and 19th century crystallized Chalcocites from Cornwall, England and the late 19th century Chalcocite from Bristol, Connecticut but there is modern locality which blows all of these away with its colossal, yet magnificently formed platy pseudohexagonal crystals. The M'Passa mine in Pool Department, Republic of Congo was known to have produced a limited number of very large crystallized Chalcocite specimens during the 1970s, with crystals to several centimetres across, but this find was shortlived and then there was nothing. That was, until 2021, when a limited find of even bigger crystals, but in smaller clusters were found. This huge individual crystal reaches over 6 cm across and is in superb condition. It is simply a worldclass Chalcocite.
