There is no escaping the volume of celestial blue Celestine that has come from Sakoany at Katsepy Commune, Mitsinjo, Mahajanga, Madagascar over the years, but very few specimens really make the grade as being top-class, but this one certainly does. This really well-balanced specimen comes from Martin Kershaw's collection in Newcastle, England and is an older piece, perhaps dating back to the 1990s, or earlier (he began collecting in the 1960s). Its beauty, and quality, comes from the way the main crystal points upwards out from a paler blue finer crystallized nodule. This crystal, which reaches at least 4 cm tall, is a completely undamaged wedge-shaped orthorhombic form, with a really intense pale blue colour and excellent glassy lustre. Several other large glassy crystals of a similar colour sit around one side of the cavity. A very showy piece of this well-known classic.
