Classic 'nail head' habit crystals of Calcite from the Bigrigg iron mining area in west Cumbria. Excellent gemmy prismatic crystals of Calcite measuring to 2.4 cm tall, are aesthetically arranged on a matrix of mixed Goethite and Hematite. This superb specimen is ex. the University of Illinois collection (with label) via the British Museum of Natural History (BMNH). The original BMNH label is glued to the matrix beneath the specimen and is numbered G48ECol202. This is a delightful example of west Cumbrian prismatic nail-head Calcite which will make a very fine addition to even a specialist west Cumbria collection.
