This large cabinet specimen contains numerous vugs of up to 1 cm diameter, all of which across the 11.5 x 7 cm display face are richly lined with the rare copper halide, Botallackite. The specimen is labelled Cligga Head mine, but is should, more accurately, be labelled simply Cligga Head. The discovery was made in April 2007 by Cornwall and Devon mineral dealer Mike Merry. The rich deposit was found in the inter-tidal zone where chlorine-rich sea water was able to react with copper bearing lodes which extended out to sea from Cligga Head mine. The vugs are lined with metallic, light peppermint green Botallackite laths of up to 5 mm long, yet principally a to 3 mm. This is an outstanding example of this quite rare species.
