Seemingly a relatively common mineral species, the presence of Böhmite as a major constituent of Bauxite, the main ore of aluminium, belies its absolute rarity as crystals. The Saga quarry (often referred to as Saga 1 and Saga 2) at Sagåsen, Mørje, Porsgrunn, Telemark, Norway is well-known as having produced some of the world's finest Böhmite crystals, but even these are in the millimetre scale. This classic Saga quarry piece is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) and features the iconic association with white Natrolite matrix, the cream coloured blocky orthorhombic Böhmite crystals lining a cavity 1.8 x 1.4 cm in area.
