This tiny, thumbnail-sized specimen of a rock-forming mineral might get passed by, but it is actually a very fine example of the uncommon species Arfvedsonite, from perhaps the United States' most important locality for it - Hurricane Mountain localities, Carroll County, New Hampshire, USA. Technically, "on matrix", the lovely glossy black, terminated Arfvedsonite crystal reaches 1.5 cm in length rising up through a small piece of feldspar. It has the tiniest of chips to one edge of its termination, but this requires high magnification to spot, otherwise it is extremely well-formed and sits very nicely. Ex David Hardman Collection, this specimen was most likely collected during the 1970s or 1980s when collectors appear to have been most active there.
