The magnesite deposit at Podrecany in Lucenec County, Slovakia, is famous for its magnificent Aragonite specimens, with this particular example probably up-there amongst some of the best! The ex-matrix Aragonite crystals measure to 9 cm long and form a delicate, intergrown, flattish group. The crystals are acicular in habit and taper almost their entire length to a sharp, needle-like tip. The Aragonite is principally colourless to milky, but with most crystals heavily included with an opaque, dark chocolate-brown (probable) clay. A gorgeous example of Aragonite from the now abandoned quarry at Podrecany.
