Banská Štiavnica (Schemnitz) is renowned for its historic amethystine Quartz crystals, that typically form beds of smaller crystals with white bases rising upwards to darker purple tips. These were, several centuries ago, considered the finest Amethyst known, but how times change. This fine historic Amethyst specimen from Banská Štiavnica is a well-coloured small cabinet specimen with light purple lustrous crystals showing the typical overgrown face modifications typical of the deposits. There is some chipping to the tips of several of the crystals, but this is old-time material and hard to come by now. At the base of the bed of Quartz crystals are mixed sulphides including Sphalerite, Galena and Chalcopyrite. Ex Martin Bohaty Collection. An old typed number label (1035) is attached to the back of the specimen but its history is not known.
