The magnificently named Gesegnete Bergmannshoffnung mine at Obergruna, near to Freiberg in Saxony, Germany, was one of the richest silver mines in the area and is famed for its superb suite of silver minerals. This museum-grade miniature of crystallised Acanthite is a marvellous example of this low temperature form of silver sulphide, with chunky crystals to almost 2 cm clustered over a matrix of coarsely-granular vein Quartz. The Acanthite crystals have multiple-stepped faces and are graphite-grey with a slightly greasy metallic lustre. An excellent, high-grade miniature of superbly crystallised Acanthite from Saxony mounted on a square acrylic base.
