Zincolivenite is the mid-series member, between Adamite and Olivenite in composition. After many years of being bundled in as a variety of either Adamite or Olivenite its very different visual appearance over either end-member is now recognized. Despite this, there are still variations, or differences in appearance even within Zincolivenites. The mineralogical mecca known as Tsumeb mine, is well-known as the source of the worlds finest Zincolivenite crystals. It is not the Type Locality - that is in Greece - but the quality of its Zincolivenite is much, much better. Even so, occasionally a form is encountered that is just so different to anything previously noted, and this is where this superb large miniature specimen sits. It forms a long open cavity, lined with distinctive leafy-green coalesced bipyramidal Zincolivenite crystals, but the way they are intergrown gives the impression of scaly, or rounded aggregates. Certainly a very different style of Zincolivenite, but still really well crystallized and quite showy for a rare species. Ex Kessler Collection.
