This is a very different take on the modern red Wulfenite from Jianshan mine in Xinjiang, China. This small cabinet piece is like a wing, or narrow ridge formed of a unknown dark brown mineral rising up (or down depending on how it was found) like organic growths over which a white mineral is draped. Embedded within and sitting upon the white are many extremely glossy red Wulfenite crystals, the largest reaching 4.5 mm on edge. These crystals not only stand out because of their colour contrast with their background but are wonderfully complex for Wulfenite, with some tabular plates with bevelled edges, but others much wider and with modified bevelled corners too. The brightness and quality of this piece cannot be captured by 2D photography, but shows up well in the video. This is a very sculptural specimen and full of character. This makes it appealing not only to collectors of Wulfenite, but those interested in aesthetics too.
