This red Wulfenite from Jianshan mine, Turpan, Xinjiang, China is full of great character: dominated by a thin tabular platy crystal, 1.9 cm on edge, rising up from a bed of smaller aggregated Wulfenite crystals. The main crystal displays small bevelled edges and one truncated corner. The red colour of these Wulfenites from Jianshan mine rivals the famous Red Cloud mine specimens from Arizona, but with the addition of contrasting white Calcite overgrowth. Discovered in 2006, this very remote, and quite limited mineral deposit (only Wulfenite, Calcite and Cerussite has been reported) became an instant classic and featured in an article in The Mineralogical Record (Jan-Feb 2007 China II issue). This small miniature displays nicely, and its main crystal is significant in size compared to most that came out. It comes with a custom-made acryllic display stand.
