This magnificent miniature-sized Wulfenite from the famous deposits at Mežica (Miess) in Slovenia is perhaps the rarest of crystal forms for this beautiful and highly collectible species. That is because it is liberally covered in a glowing arrangement of bright orange, resinous, twinned bipyramidal Wulfenite crystals, reaching an exceptional 1.1 cm in length. The twins are 'macles', where two bipyramids are grown in a line with a 'v'-shaped notch joining the two together. To add to the complexity, some of these twinned crystals are multiply terminated, so that their pyramid has become many aligned pyramids, like the spikes on a meat tenderizer. There is a tiny amount of damage to the crystals, but actually much of what appears to be bruising is actually the multifaceted form of the terminations. It has the classic, massive white matrix, often termed limestone although its density suggested that it might be massive Baryte. Ex Dr. Bartnik Collection, this is top notch for crystal form, crystal colour and crystal size.
