Six chunky blocky tabular orange Wulfenite crystals with very slightly convex sides and a lovely resinous lustre sit nicely for display upon a layer of Calcite on matrix. The largest crystal is 1.4 cm on edge and all are over 1 cm, and all are of classic, instantly recognizable, Erupción mine form, from Los Lamentos in Mexico. The bed of white Calcite is coated with a finely microcrystalline layer of brownish Vanadinite or Descloizite. This iconic Wulfenite-producing mine was producing mineral specimens way back in the 1920s with stunning Wulfenite specimens coming out in waves during the 1960s and 1970s. The Wulfenite 'zone' was very deep in terms of worldwide oxidation deposits - being encountered at about 500 feet from surface and continuing down to at least 800 feet depth. The last specimens reportedly came out in 1981 before the mine flooded. This cabinet-sized display is mounted upright on a chamfered acryllic display block and in in superb condition. A Mexican and indeed worldwide Wulfenite classic.
