A classic British specimen of well-formed Witherite crystals on Alstonite from Fallowfield mine, Hexham, Northumberland. Pyramidal crystals of Witherite from Fallowfield mine are the most sought after form of this species, even through they are technically twinned, modified crystals. This specimen has several, characteristic, whitish translucent pyramidal crystals to 2.1 cm in length sat upon a layer of Alstonite microcrystals. One of the Witherite crystals (the longest) is isolated and wonderfully formed, whilst another seven pyramidal crystals are aggregated together and all nicely terminated, save for the slightest abrasion to the point on one crystal. Beneath the Alstonite crystals is a small patch of Galena and rock matrix. Fallowfield mine, is of course, the joint Type Locality for Alstonite alongside Brownley Hill mine. This a great crystallized example of Witherite.
